Happy New Year! It’s hard to believe another year has come and gone. I know I feel like we just celebrated 2022, so it’s wild to think it’s already 2023! Thinking back to the beginning of 2022, I would not have been able to guess I would be where I am today. So much has changed in my and my family’s life this past year, most of which are wonderful changes. However, with the new year, it’s hard not to think of all the other changes we want to make or didn’t get to this last year. Some may call these resolutions.
Every year, I make resolutions, but they never seem to pan out. I always forget about them or eventually give up on them. However, this year feels different. Not different in that my resolutions have changed, but I am finally ready to make my resolutions a reality. I have not always been one to take care of myself or put myself first in any aspect. But especially working as a nurse, I quickly realized I could not pour from an empty cup. It sounds very cliché, but it is so true. When I don’t pour into myself, I am more irritable and lose my patience much faster. I don’t feel good about that, when that happens, and I finally realized I could do something about it.
Before the New Year festivities began, I took some time to write out my goals. I wrote a list of 10, and some of my resolutions are things I can start right now, like doing some form of exercise at least four times a week. Other goals will take some time, and you know what? That is okay. Goals don’t have to be met overnight. They don’t even have to be met by the end of this year. It’s just important to take some steps to achieving them.
Hoping you all have a happy and healthy new year!
