From Uncertainty to Confidence

Eli and Emilly came in search of answers–what they found was support and connection that set them on a path to parenthood.

Emilly, 17, and Eli, 16, came to Connect Medical Clinic in search of answers and support after discovering Emilly was pregnant. “I had no idea how far along I was or what the next step was,” Emilly explained. Unsure of where to turn, Emilly’s mom recommended the clinic, describing it as welcoming and non-judgmental. “She didn’t lie,” Eli added.

Initially, the couple thought an abortion might be the answer. “We thought it could be quick and easy, and no one would have to know,” Emilly admitted. However, their first ultrasound revealed a baby already 16 weeks along, with arms, legs, and a beating heart. “That changed everything,” Emilly shared.

For Eli, seeing their baby on the ultrasound was a pivotal moment. “It felt different… like it wouldn’t be right to go through with it,” he said. Though the decision wasn’t immediate, the unwavering support from the clinic staff made an impression. “You said, ‘Whatever you guys decide, you can do it,’ and that meant a lot,” Emilly recalled.

Ultimately, the couple chose to keep their baby, a decision they describe as life-changing. Though their journey included challenges, like their baby spending 18 days in the NICU, Emilly and Eli embraced parenthood. Eli shared, “I enjoy being a teen dad… it’s been more fun than anything else.”

Emilly also expressed gratitude for the education and resources they received. “I didn’t know how much I didn’t know until I started Cycle Tracking Education,” she said. “And the ability to earn diapers and wipes through the classes is just so helpful—it’s a no-brainer.”

Reflecting on their experience, both Emilly and Eli emphasized the unique environment at Connect. “It’s not just a corner store in a strip mall,” Eli explained. “This place makes a real difference.” Emilly added, “Even without all the material help, I’d recommend this place to anyone. They believed in us, and that made all the difference.”

Connection Service Highlights

Choice Services empower women, men, and couples to make informed, thoughtful decisions about their health. Whether verifying a pregnancy, evaluating contraception options, planning for future family, or seeking comprehensive sexual health education, our dignity-centered approach supports you in moving forward with confidence.

Early Pregnancy Evaluation with Limited Obstetrical Ultrasound Exam and Decision-Making

Our Early Pregnancy Evaluation provides holistic medical care to verify pregnancy. We use an evidence-based decision tool to help women consider their pregnancy decisions. Each appointment includes a limited OB ultrasound and a physical exam with the provider, giving women, men, or couples the medical confirmation they need to move forward confidently. Ultrasounds begin at 6 weeks gestation and are performed using both transvaginal and transabdominal methods to confirm pregnancy and establish accurate dating. Patients are connected with resources and support, offered future appointments to revisit the decision guide, and referred to an OB provider when appropriate.

Birth Control Education and Decision-Making

Our Medical Care Team helps women and men explore options for avoiding pregnancy that align with their values and health needs. Using an evidence-based decision tool and guided interactive discussion with visual and learning aids, our care team reviews both hormonal and non-hormonal contraceptive methods, explaining the risks and benefits of each. While we do not provide hormonal contraceptives, we help patients understand their choices and move forward with confidence, equipped with information and support.

IUD Removal (with visible strings) / Nexplanon Removal

When it’s time to remove a woman’s long-acting reversible contraceptive (LARC) device, our Medical Care Team provides expert care and guidance. Each appointment includes a holistic assessment, discussion of future fertility plans and goals, pre- and post-removal education, and removal of the IUD or Nexplanon device. We’re here to support women in making informed decisions and moving forward with confidence.

Cycle Charting for Family Planning

Our Medical Care Team offers education on fertility-awareness-based methods (FABMs) to help women confidently identify signs of fertility, chart these signs, and recognize their own fertile window. This education can be used to either achieve or avoid pregnancy. Each program includes a holistic assessment, cycle charting instruction with our certified FEMM educator (see femmhealth.org for more details), and three to four personalized sessions. Follow-up referrals to medical management are provided if needed, ensuring patients feel empowered and supported.

Sexual Health Risk Avoidance Education

For older teens (14 and older), we provide comprehensive sexual health risk avoidance education, either inside the clinic or through outreach in classrooms. This education covers STIs, contraception, consent, healthy relationships, and both primary and secondary risk avoidance strategies. We believe every person has the right to make informed choices, and dignity-centered education empowers positive health outcomes. In the clinic, each session includes a holistic assessment, education tailored to individual needs, and guidance to ensure confident, informed decisions.
